Skills and knowledge needed to safely operate a 4 wheel drive (4WD) in a range of conditions and terrain types, conduct minor maintenance and repairs plus assess options for recovery of a 4WD vehicle.

Who Should Attend
Drivers of 4WD’s on sealed & unsealed roads as well as those who may be required to conduct off-road driving operations including driving in remote areas.
Prerequisites
The prerequisites for attendance at this course are:
Successful completion of Operate Light Vehicle training (RIIVEH201D).
4WD experience is preferred – please advise PTS if you have had no previous 4WD experience so that additional training support can be arranged.
If you only have an automatic licence please contact PTS so that a suitable vehicle can be arranged for training._
Note: All prerequisites need to be current.
Learning Outcomes
As a result of attending this course participants should be able to:
- Plan a journey and pre-drive vehicle inspections
- Understand basic principles of off road driving
- Safely operate a four wheel drive in a variety of conditions and terrains
- Change a wheel
- Methods and staff practice of vehicle recovery techniques
PPE/PPC & Equipment Requirements
PTS dress standards (long sleeve top, long pants & enclosed shoes).
