Recognition of prior learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) provides an opportunity for a review and assessment of skills and knowledge that may have been gained through formal or informal training, work or life experience. Through this process a Qualification or a Statement of Attainment for one or more Units of Competency may be awarded.

The RPL assessment process has a number of steps that will help determine if you already have the required skills and knowledge to be assessed as competent.

The steps include:

  • Analysis of any documentary evidence you can provide against the competency standard
  • Completion of an interview to discuss your experience and knowledge
  • Completion of a practical demonstration and/or written assessment
  • Confirmation of your experience with third party referees

Once the RPL assessment has been completed, the Assessor will recommend any training that may be required to fill the gap between the required competency criteria and the competency evidence you provide.

Power Training Services WA (PTSWA) can undertake an RPL assessment for all qualifications currently on scope; to view PTSWA’s training scope go to training.gov.au and enter the RTO number 5749 in the Quick Search field.

Please Note: PTSWA is Western Power’s enterprise RTO and we do not currently offer general enrolment into our qualification training programs.
