Skills and knowledge needed to safely operate a 4 wheel drive (4WD) vehicle on sealed and unsealed roads.

Who Should Attend

Anyone required to safely operate and maintain a 4WD in an operational capacity on metro or regional roads.

Prerequisites

The prerequisites for attendance at this course are:
A full or probationary ‘C’ class licence.

If you only have an automatic licence please contact PTS so that a suitable vehicle can be arranged for training.

Note: All prerequisites need to be current.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of attending this course participants should be able to:

  • planning and preparing for operating the vehicle
  • basic 4WD operation on gravel roads
  • additional risks associated with operating a 4WD as compared to passenger vehicles
  • understanding the basic types of 4WD systems
  • monitoring of traffic and associated equipment
  • management of vehicle condition and performance
  • effective management of hazardous situations.

PPE/PPC & Equipment Requirements

Students will require:

  • PTS dress standards (long sleeve top, long pants & enclosed shoes).
  • You will be required to show your licence to the training provider on the day of training.
