This 9-day off-the-job training course provides participants with the knowledge and skills associated with Western Power Switching Operator authority level transmission lines (TL) as stipulated by Network Operations, followed by an on-the-job workbook.

Who Should Attend
Authorised Western Power Switching Operators who wish to gain the switching authorisation Transmission Lines (TL) as stipulated in Appendix 4 of the ESSR 2016.
Prerequisites
The prerequisites for attendance at this course are:
- Network Authority Card (NAC)
- XSUB2 Substation Entry authorisation
- LNA3T – Recipient in Charge Transmission authorisation
- LENAR – ENAR authorisation, plus either
- A Western Australian Electricians Licence – Certificate of Registration (issued by EnergySafety WA), OR
- A Certificate III in ESI Distribution Overhead, OR
- Certificate III in ESI Cable Jointing
Note: All prerequisites need to be current.
Learning Outcomes
As a result of attending this course participants should be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the electrical configuration of Western Power zone and terminal substations
- Describe the function of transmission lines switchgear in terminal and zone substations
- Identify and describe the components of transmission lines protection schemes
- Demonstrate the safe switching of switchgear in substations
- Demonstrate the safe application and removal of programme earths
- Demonstrate the use of Western Power policy and procedural tools and documentation for transmission lines switching operations
- Plan, prepare and perform transmission lines switching operations within the Western Power TL switching authority
- Use onsite information to identify and locate faults
PPE/PPC & Equipment Requirements
PPE Level 3, including:
- rated gloves appropriate to the voltage
- face shield

Assessments
Written and practical assessments are included in the course.
Participants will need to demonstrate the required knowledge and the necessary practical skills in line with the learning outcomes.
Participants will be required to complete an on-the-job workbook. This workbook includes a number of written and practical assignments.
The assignments must be completed and submitted to Power Training Services WA.
Participants will not be considered to have completed the course until all on-the-job assignments have been successfully completed.
