Pilot cable systems for technicians

This course will provide the participant with the practical knowledge, skills and understanding of Western Power’s pilot cable network. It should be taken after completion of the PTS 709 – Pilot cable systems general course, which covers the theory of Western Power’s pilot cable network.

Protections, Communications and SCADA technicians

Prerequisites

The prerequisites for attendance at this course are:

• PTS 709 – Pilot cable systems – general
• NAC – Network Authority Card
• XSUB2 – Substation entry level 2 authorisation

1. Hold at least one of the following:
   • Certificate III in ESI – Power Systems – Distribution Overhead
   • Certificate III in ESI – Power Systems – Distribution Cable Jointing
   • WA Electrical Worker’s Licence.

1. At least one of the following authorisations:
   • NA3T RIC – Recipient in Charge – Transmission
   • NA4T TIC – Tester in Charge (if attending the Pilot cable systems for technicians course)
   • NA4T CSR – Tester in Charge Comms and SCADA restricted

Note: All prerequisites need to be current.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of attending this course participants should be able to combine the understanding of pilot cable systems acquired in PTS 709 with the practical skills and knowledge required to work on Western Power’s pilot cable network.The skills and knowledge to combine the understanding of pilot cable systems with the practical skills and knowledge required to work on Western Power’s pilot cable network.
