This course covers the installation and maintenance of de-energised low voltage underground polymeric cables and covers the jointing, terminating, repair and replacement of cables. It includes the isolation of systems and circuits, the procedure of issuing/accepting electrical access permits, the undertaking of pre-commissioning and/or re-commissioning tests and the updating of system data/maintenance records.

Who Should Attend

Western Power employees who hold a Certificate III in ESI – Power Systems – Distribution Overhead (UET30619)

Prerequisites

  • Network Authority Card (NAC)

You will not be granted competency in this unit until competency in the following units have been confirmed and any pre-requisite competencies required for each of the units listed.

  • UEENEEE101A Apply Occupational Health and Safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
  • UEENEEE102A Fabricate, assemble and dismantle utilities industry components
  • UEENEEE105A Fix and secure electrotechnology equipment
  • UEENEEE107A Use drawings, diagrams, schedules, standards, codes and specifications
  • UETTDREL11 Apply sustainable energy and environmental procedures
  • UETTDREL16 Working safely near live electrical apparatus
  • UETTDRCJ21 Lay ESI electrical cables

Note: all prerequisites need to be current.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of attending this assessment participants should be able to:

  • Prepare for the installation and maintenance of de-energised LV underground polymeric cables
  • Carry out the installation and maintenance of de-energised LV underground polymeric cables
  • Complete the installation and maintenance of de-energised LV underground polymeric cables.
