Use of pole planter and supplementary attachments

Provides participants with the knowledge and skills to safely operate a backhoe and pole planter under isolated and permitted conditions, while ensuring the stability and structural integrity of the backhoe/loader is maintained. The course addresses the compliance with all manufacturers' equipment requirements, WorkSafe WA Regulations, Australian Standards and Western Power work instructions and procedures.

Who Should Attend

This course is suitable for employees or contractors who are required to install and remove a distribution pole using a backhoe loader with pole planter.

Prerequisites

The prerequisites for attendance at this course are:

• Network Authority Card
• RIIMPO319A or RIIMPO319D – Conduct backhoe/loader operations
• Licence to perform high risk work – Class DG (Dogging)

Note: All prerequisites need to be current.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of attending this course participants should be able to:

• Carry out an excavation with a backhoe
• Plant a pole using a pole planter under isolated and permitted conditions
• Carry out new overhead line construction outside the minimum approach distance from live HV and LV circuits
• Remove a pole with a pole planter
• Use supplementary attachments

PPE/PPC & Equipment Requirements

Some of the practical training for this course will take place in an operational area. You are required to have/provide Western Power approved PPC and PPE requirements for the practical work.
Refer to the Western Power PPE Procedure Sections 3.1 & 3.2, for these requirements.

Note: To undertake this course the client must provide the necessary plant and equipment on the day, ie. a pole planter.
Note: Power Training Services does not provide PPE, PPC and tools for training courses.

Assessments

Written and practical assessments are included in the course.
Participants will need to demonstrate the required knowledge and the necessary practical skills in line with the learning outcomes.
Assessment includes the completion of a post course workbook which must be satisfactorily completed within a period of six months of attending the initial training course. After completion of the workbook a practical assessment must also be undertaken and successfully completed to be deemed to have completed the course.
Participants will not be considered to have completed the course until all on-the-job assignments have been successfully completed.
