Who Should Attend
Workers who are required to carry out the washing and coating of insulators supporting energised high voltage conductors
Prerequisites
The prerequisites for attendance at this course are:
- Network Authority Card (NAC)
- Certificate III in ESI – Distribution overhead qualification
- TLILIC2005 Licence to perform high risk work – EWP (elevating work platform)
Note: All prerequisites need to be current.
Learning Outcomes
As a result of attending this course participants should be able to:
- Identify and apply worksite safety requirements
- Identify and prepare equipment for insulator washing and coating
- Inspect and maintain tools and equipment used for insulator washing and coating
- Test the quality of water used for insulator washing
- Test insulators for defects
- Wash and apply coating to insulators supporting high voltage apparatus
PPE/PPC & Equipment Requirements
- PPE Level 1
- Coverall to protect clothing
- Fall arrest harness
- PS2 respirator (optional)
To undertake this course, you may be required to provide the following plant and equipment:
- high voltage insulated EWP fitted with high voltage earth lead and spike
- silicone pump and product
- insulated silicone delivery hose
- insulated spray wand and jets
- silicone wipes or similar cleaning products
- a wind meter
- minimum of 450 litre water tank filled with de-mineralised water
- high pressure washing unit
- insulated high pressure hose
- insulated washing wand
- a water meter

Assessments
Written and practical assessments are included in the course.
Participants will need to demonstrate the required knowledge and the necessary practical skills in line with the learning outcomes.
Participants will not be considered to have completed this course until all assessments have been completed to a satisfactory level.
