Remove and install live line taps

This four hour training course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to remove and install high voltage live line taps.

Who Should Attend
This course is suitable for people who hold LOU authorisation or have NOT been trained in the removal or installation of HV live line taps.
Prerequisites
The prerequisites for attendance at this course are:
- Introduction to Western Power switching procedures
- Network Authority Card (NAC)
- NA2 Substation Entry Authorisation
- Cert III Apprentice or Cert III Distribution Lineworker or Cable Jointer; qualified Electrician
- Recipient in Charge for work permits and currently authorised RIC for electrical access permit
- must hold low voltage network switching authorisation
Note: All prerequisites need to be current.
Learning Outcomes
As a result of attending this course participants should be able to:
- Remove an HV live line tap
- Install an HV live line tap
- Clean and maintain insulated sticks
PPC and PPE requirements
Some of the practical training for this course will take place in an operational area. You are required to have/provide Western Power approved PPC and PPE requirements for the practical work. Refer to the Western Power PPE Procedure Sections 3.1 & 3.2, for these requirements.
Students will need :
- flame retartdant overalls, long sleeve shirt and trousers (minimum cal 6.5)
- eye protection (glasses AS1337) medium impact
- head protection (helmets AS/NZ 1801)
- safety footwear
Note: Power Training Services does not provide PPE, PPC and tools for training courses.
Assessments
Written and practical assessments are included in the course.
Participants will need to demonstrate the required knowledge and the necessary practical skills in line with the learning outcomes.
Participants will not be considered to have completed this course until all assessments have been completed to a satisfactory level.
