Western Power distribution cable jointing familiarisation - transition jointing

This course will familiarise participants with knowledge and skills of legislation and Western Power requirements, cable characteristics, cable types, cable installation principles and procedures, and the skills to safely joint paper insulated to polymeric cable used in Western Power’s network.

Who Should Attend
This course is suitable for people who are required to transition joint on Western Power’s Network.
Prerequisites
The prerequisites for attendance at this course are:
- Network authority card (NAC)
- UETTDRRF06B – Perform rescue from a live LV panel plus
- Certificate III in ESI – Power Systems – Distribution Cable Jointing (including UETTDRCJ28A – Joint and maintain energised low voltage underground polymeric cables), OR
- Certificate III in ESI – Power Systems – Distribution Overhead (including UETTDRCJ28A – Joint and maintain energised low voltage underground polymeric cables)
Note: All prerequisites need to be current.
Learning Outcomes
As a result of attending this course participants should be able to:
- understand Western Power’s LV jointing practices and procedures for transition jointing paper insulated to polymeric cable
PPE/PPC & Equipment Requirements
Some of the practical training for this course will take place in an operational area. You are required to have/provide Western Power approved PPC and PPE requirements for the practical work.
You must also provide:
- Working gloves – QH170-172
- Cut resistant gloves – QH0243-245
- Respirator (type A organic vapour) - QE0127
Refer to the Western Power PPE Procedure Sections 3.1 & 3.2, for these requirements.
Note: Power Training Services does not provide PPE, PPC and tools for training courses.
Assessments
Written and practical assessments are included in the course.
Participants will need to demonstrate the required knowledge and the necessary practical skills in line with the learning outcomes.
Participants will not be considered to have completed this course until all assessments have been completed to a satisfactory level.
