Western Power distribution cable jointing familiarisation - LV de-energised

This course will familiarise participants with knowledge and skills of legislation and Western Power requirements, cable characteristics, cable types, cable installation principles and procedures, and the skills to safely joint, terminate and maintain low voltage de-energised underground polymeric cables used in Western Power’s network.

Who Should Attend

This course is suitable for people who are required to gain the following Western Power authorisations:

  • Lay cables
  • Joint and maintain de-energised LV polymeric cables

Prerequisites

The prerequisites for attendance at this course are:

  • Network authority card (NAC)
  • UETTDRRF06B – Perform rescue from a live LV panel
  • Certificate III in ESI – Power Systems – Distribution Cable Jointing, OR
  • Certificate III in ESI – Power Systems – Distribution Overhead plus all of the following cable jointing units:
    • UETTDRCJ21A Lay ESI electrical cables
    • UETTDRCJ26A Install and maintain de-energised low voltage underground polymeric cables

Note: All prerequisites need to be current.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of attending this course participants should be able to:

  • Understand Western Power’s cable laying requirements
  • Joint and maintain de-energised LV polymeric cables
  • Understand Western Power’s LV jointing practices and procedures

PPE/PPC & Equipment Requirements

Some of the practical training for this course will take place in an operational area. You are required to have/provide Western Power approved PPC and PPE requirements for the practical work.
You must also provide:

  • Low voltage gloves – 650V
  • Cut resistant work gloves

Refer to the Western Power PPE Procedure Sections 3.1 & 3.2, for these requirements.

Note: Power Training Services does not provide PPE, PPC and tools for training courses.

Assessments

Written and practical assessments are included in the course.
Participants will need to demonstrate the required knowledge and the necessary practical skills in line with the learning outcomes.
Participants will not be considered to have completed this course until all assessments have been completed to a satisfactory level.
