Provide the participant with the communication skills and the system and equipment knowledge to take responsibility for issuing and cancelling work permits as per Electrical System Safety Rules (ESSR).

Who Should Attend
Employees or contractors who are required to issue permits across the Western Power total network
Prerequisites
The prerequisites for attendance at this course are:
- hold authorisation as an RIC or TIC
- One of the following qualifications:
- Certificate III in ESI – Distribution Overhead, or
- Certificate III in ESI – Distribution Cable Jointing qualification, or
- Western Australian electrician’s licence, or
- post-trade electrical qualification
Note: All prerequisites need to be current.
Learning Outcomes
As a result of attending this course participants should be able to:
- Describe Issuing Officer role and responsibilities
- Demonstrate knowledge of communications protocol and competency in writing work permits to Western Power standards
- Demonstrate knowledge of variations to permit procedures and demonstrate ability to identify switchgear
- Demonstrate high level of understanding of the equipments' operation and status
PPE/PPC & Equipment Requirements
PTSWA training room standards apply:
- smart casual attire (no shorts)
- enclosed footwear
- LV gloves – 650V
- Cut resistant work gloves
Note: Power Training Services does not provide PPE, PPC and tools for training courses.
Assessments
Written and practical assessments are included in the course.
Participants will need to demonstrate the required knowledge and the necessary practical skills in line with the learning outcomes.
Participants will not be considered to have completed this course until all assessments have been completed to a satisfactory level.
Participants will be required to complete an on-the-job workbook. This workbook includes a number of written and practical assignments.
The assignments must be completed and submitted to Power Training Services WA within six months of completing the course.
Participants will not be considered to have completed the course until all on-the-job assignments have been successfully completed.
