Work safely at heights

This one day training course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to understand the characteristics, hazards and legislative requirements needed to operate safely at height or depths.

Participants in this training are introduced to important legislation, codes of practice and Australian Standards relating to working at heights. An understanding of hazard identification, job safety analysis and the height safety hierarchy of control will be achieved.

Safety issues related to working at heights are covered, from how forces are generated in falls, to correct selection and use of anchor points and height safety equipment. Safe methods of working at height are introduced including scaffolding, elevated work platforms (EWP), work positioning systems, ladders and fall arrest systems. Training also includes the correct use of equipment, installation of anchors, fall restraints, work positioning and fall arrest systems.

Participants are encouraged throughout the training program to develop, participate and apply skills in the safe management of working at heights, from correctly fitting a full body harness and identifying harness features, through to equipment inspection and maintenance and basic height rescue. They will experience and use a wide selection of height safety equipment, tailored to suit the company’s individual requirements throughout the course.

• Clean up work area

PPE/PPC & Equipment Requirements

Some of the practical training for this course will take place in an operational area. You are required to have/provide Western Power approved PPC and PPE requirements for the practical work.

Refer to the Western Power PPE Procedure Sections 3.1 & 3.2, for these requirements.

Note: Power Training Services does not provide PPE, PPC and tools for training courses.

Assessments

Written and practical assessments are included in the course.
Participants will need to demonstrate the required knowledge and the necessary practical skills in line with the learning outcomes.
Participants will not be considered to have completed this course until all assessments have been completed to a satisfactory level.
