Working near energised distribution equipment

This one day training course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to safely open and work near energised Western Power distribution equipment.
This course includes information relating to the responsibilities of Western Power employees who work near energised equipment, the hazards of working near energised equipment and the control measures that can be used to prevent injury or equipment damage.
This course does not cover the requirements to work on the equipment itself.

Who Should Attend
This course is suitable for people who are required to work near energised distribution equipment but have little or no operational field experience.
Prerequisites
The prerequisites for attendance at this training course are:
- XCARD – Network Authority Card (NAC)
- Electrical trade qualification or a university electrical qualification
Note: All prerequisites need to be current.
Learning Outcomes
As a result of attending this course participants should be able to:
- Unlock and open enclosure doors
- Close and lock enclosure doors
- Carry out inspections of energised equipment
- Observe and photograph opened and exposed equipment
PPE/PPC & Equipment Requirements
- PPE Level 1
- Face shield
- LV gloves

Assessments
Written assessments are included in this course, including an on the job workbook.
Participants will need to demonstrate the required knowledge and the necessary practical skills in line with the learning outcomes.
Participants will be required to complete an on-the-job workbook. This workbook includes a number of written and practical assignments.
The assignments must be completed and submitted to Power Training Services WA,
Participants will not be considered to have completed the course until all on-the-job assignments have been successfully completed.
