Who Should Attend

Overhead workers who are required to install Hendrix covered conductor on the Western Power network.

Prerequisites

The prerequisites for attendance at this course are:

  • CIII in ESI – Power Systems – Distribution Overhead
  • Network Authority Card (NAC)

Note: All prerequisites need to be current.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of attending this course participants should be able to:

  • Explain the difference between screened and covered conductors
  • Name the four component parts of Hendrix conductors
  • Identify the main equipment for the installation of Hendrix conductors
  • Calculate the correct tensioning of messenger wire and Hendrix conductors
  • Describe the requirements when grounding messenger wire
  • Describe the correct preparation procedure and make the necessary calculations when installing the messenger wire and Hendrix conductors
  • Demonstrate the correct splicing procedure for Hendrix conductors
  • Demonstrate the correct stringing procedure to install Hendrix conductors
  • Demonstrate the correct stringing procedure to install Hendrix conductor using equipment supplied
  • State the minimum distance required between any two splices, or a splice and any hardware on Hendrix conductors
  • Demonstrate the correct splicing procedure for Hendrix conductor using the equipment supplied

PPE/PPC & Equipment Requirements

  • PPE Level 1
  • Hat/Sun protections
  • Wet weather gear – weather dependent
  • 2 x Shifting spanners – 250mm/10
  • 1 x Flat blade screwdriver

Assessments

Written and practical assessments are included in the course.
Participants will need to demonstrate the required knowledge and the necessary practical skills in line with the learning outcomes.
Participants will not be considered to have completed this course until all assessments have been completed to a satisfactory level.
