Basic fire extinguisher, bushfire awareness and fire tender trailer
Knowledge and skills to safely use portable fire fighting equipment, Fire Tenders/Trailers and associated equipment, plus an understanding of bushfire behaviour to promote safe working practices in remote and bush fire prone areas. Practical activities involving fire are used in this training.

Who Should Attend
People who work in premises and vehicles equipped with portable fire fighting equipment; and those working in remote and bushfire-prone areas where they may be required to use Fire Tenders/Trailers and associated equipment.

Course Includes
Fire Extinguisher
- identifying fire extinguisher types (colour coding of extinguishers and Fire Fighting agents
- operating portable fire extinguishers, fire blankets and hose reels safely and effectively
- identifying fire hazards in the workplace and having knowledge and confidence in fire emergency response
- improving housekeeping techniques to reduce the risk of fire and employing safe working practices.
Bushfire Awareness
- understanding of the procedures to follow on the fire ground when working with multi-agencies at a bushfire and in accordance with Western Power fire precaution work instruction
- information on burning and fire danger ratings (FDR) and obtaining information on fire and weather warnings
- Western Power exemption under the Bush Fires Act
- Understanding and completing WRAP
- Operational restrictions during high fire danger periods
- Vehicle and plant fire suppression equipment
- Bushfire control and extinguishment (water bombing, being caught in a drop zone)
- Bushfire safety and survival
Fire Tender/Trailer
- Tasking requirements – reporting, briefing and communications
- Work environment hazard assessment – eg. determining safe and unsafe work areas and practices, fire survival in a vehicle
- Equipment overview and orientation – specification of a tender/trailer, how to use safety and competently. Includes a practice session.
PPE/PPC & Equipment Requirements
PPE Level 1 – Hi vis FR (Fire Retarded) long sleeve shirt, long pants and safety shoes must be worn.

Assessments
Written and practical assessments are included in the course.
Participants will need to demonstrate the required knowledge and the necessary practical skills in line with the learning outcomes.
Participants will not be considered to have completed this course until all assessments have been completed to a satisfactory level.
