Cultural Immersion Learning Journeys increase awareness and create a better understanding of Aboriginal culture and people on an “Out On Country” experience, where participants will see through their own eyes what Aboriginal people saw through theirs. Participants will see bushfoods and medicines that still exist, feel and gain a sense of the journey of the old and young people that once utilised Wadjuk country. To give participants a greater respect for country and culture, these journeys are delivered at Western Power sites or on significant sites within Wadjuk and Noongar country.
Cultural Immersion Learning Journeys are aimed at sharing connection to country from an Aboriginal perspective. Shared is knowledge of the bush tuckers and medicines, Six Seasons, Whadjuk and Noongar history and culture, Spirituality relevant to significant sites, stories attached to each place and ways forward towards Reconciliation for all Australians.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the workshops, participants will be asked to fill an evaluation form to capture any last comments and suggestions for improving their experience.
- Clear definition of the Aboriginal Noongar Culture including cultural nuances;
- Explanation of Aboriginal Countries, Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement to Country;
- Positioning of historical facts prior to and after Colonisation – specifically designed for multi-national audiences;
- Communication styles – eye contact, hierarchical influences, body language;
- Cultural Obligations (within the confines of Men’s and Women’s Business Confidentiality Protocols) including an overview of Family and Mob structure, Lore Time, Sorry Time, Aunty and Uncle reference;
- Understand the link between diversity, productivity and business benefits;
- Develop an enhanced appreciation of the nature and prevalence of bias; and
- Become familiar with frameworks for identifying, addressing and reducing bias.
- Relate individual actions to treat people fairly and with respect.
- Actively participated in group discussions and reflect on the learning and ask questions.
- Overview of the Western Power RAP and outcomes for the business;

Note – as this workshop can be conducted off site and there may be some travel involved.
- Please be aware that Western Power’s preferred method of transport is that you travel in a Western Power vehicle (car pool if necessary) or use public transport. However should you need to use your own vehicle you will need to complete a Private Vehicle (grey fleet) Usage Approval form

Prices quoted will vary dependant on size of group, number of stops and whether your require an airconditioned bus or not. The cost of this course is met through your Function’s budget.
• If you are unable to attend, please cancel your booking through OnCourse within 7 working days to avoid your HoF receiving notification of the course cost.
• Approval from your formal leader is required before your booking can be confirmed. Please send the approval email to inclusion@westernpower.com.au
• If the minimum class number is not reached, the workshop will be cancelled.
• Participants will be notified asap and offered an alternative date.
