Innovation is in our bones. Perhaps it didn’t have a fancy name but we have always found new ways to working when we have needed. Today, technology drives an even quicker rate of change and we want to be ready for the next big thing in energy.

Inside innovation series of courses will help us build the skills to ensure we make Western Power a place where good ideas happen.

This course offers Design Thinking principles, customer empathy and human centred design.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of attending this course participants should be able to:
• Define and describe the key concepts of design thinking (a fresh approach to problems/ideas)
• Identify and describe customer empathy (build a customer-focus)
• Discover projects within the business currently using a design thinking approach
• Compare a human-centered design thinking approach (think – designing your processes around people needs)
• Relate the design thinking process to a real-world problem/scenario
• Define empathy and list the four elements of empathy
• Practise using a range of customer empathy tools
• Conduct a short empathy interview
• Extract insights from empathy interview into meaningful design solutions
• Discover the importance of experimentation, prototyping, having a bias toward action and the power of iteration

Please note There will be no catering provided for any of these sessions. You can bring your own food and refreshments to any session, there are kitchen facilities at all sites.
